September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month and Teal is the signature color for OC awareness.
Ovarian cancer is a disease that is currently impacting one of our QGSC guild members. This is a great way for us to support her in her journey, raise funds and hopefully raise awareness about this devastating disease which has no screening test available at this time.
You might have heard our last month’s evening meeting speaker Beth Helfter mention her Teal Mini Swap for ovarian cancer but her swap is now full. So, we're doing our own thing locally to raise awareness and work toward beating ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer ranks fifth in cancer deaths among women, accounting for more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system
SIGN UP: So here's how ours would work: anyone who would like to participate can sign up to sew by September 15th. All you have to do is copy and paste the sign up from below the dotted line and email to teal.qgsc@gmail.com
SEW: Between September 15th and October 15th. You'll have the choice of being paired with a partner to each sew and swap a 20" x 20" mini quilt with teal in it; or you can sign up singly to sew a small item to be put into the guild silent auction boutique. Participants can choose to receive a 9" square of teal solid fabric or use their own teal fabric. The teal fabric square can be picked up 9:30-11 am September 15th in downtown Fayetteville, or we can mail it to you.
DONATE: There is no cost to sign up but we're encouraging donations to OCRA. Participants can go to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance and make their donation directly online. Even if you don't have time to sew, you can still donate. Please donate in Jane's honor so we will be able to track how much we've raised. No matter what amount of money we raise, we can still raise awareness. If you choose to receive the teal fabric square, there will be a teal ribbon with it that you can wear to show your support.
SWAP or TURN IN: October 15th we will send you the name and contact info for your swap partner so you can make arrangements to trade items. Or, if you're sewing for the boutique we will contact you to make arrangements for delivery or pick-up.
QGSC members please contact Kristin Slagle.
